Ben Goodlund for City Council!

“As a lifelong resident of Hopkins for more than 35 years, I feel that I’m able to uniquely reference our city’s rich history, while celebrating the evolution of our present day community, with a focus towards future growth and development. I’m excited to once again run for Hopkins City Council because I believe that our city’s leadership needs to better reflect the people it serves. Together, we can accomplish this through increased accountability, making smarter investments, and financial stewardship.”

Good for you, Good for Hopkins!

Ben’s Vision

Good Community

  • At the heart of a good community are people from all walks of life coming together with a shared sense of purpose and belonging. Open communication, involvement, and cooperation between local agencies and community members creates an environment where public safety works for the betterment of all. Hopkins is unique with its local small-town charm and it’s important that we preserve it through supporting local businesses, events, and The Raspberry Festival. As our city grows and becomes more diverse, it’s imperative that The Council reflects these changes.

Good Economy

  • The key to a good economy is a strong business climate where patronage of local businesses allow for the exchange of goods and services that satisfy the demands of the consumer, and allow for a community to flourish. In order for this type of marketplace to thrive, we must renew our commitment to our local business owners and make Hopkins the best place to do business. Essential to attracting and retaining local businesses, our local leadership must incentivize their efforts by lowering their tax burden, and rent, as well as putting money back into our citizens hands, giving them the opportunity to support more local businesses. This will stimulate job creation within our community. Downtown Hopkins must be a vibrant economic driver that creates long-term sustainable growth and development.

Good Decisions

  • The foundation of good decisions starts with listening to our residents. As an independent voice, I will seek input from individuals, businesses, and fellow leaders. I firmly believe by utilizing common sense and a collaborative approach, we can create solutions that better serve all in our community. The best decisions do not merely satisfy the convenience of the moment, they are able to withstand the test of time. We have a responsibility to invest wisely and within our means so that we can demonstrate good fiscal stewardship that never limits future opportunities.
